The year was 1852 when Peter Burkey founded a cabinet making business and funeral home. The Civil War was almost ten years away and Millard Filmore was President of The United States. Thirty Presidents later, the business is still operating under fifth generation and great, great grandson Steven C. Burkey and his partner of 25 years, John C. Driscoll.
Our funeral home/furniture store combination is one of the few left operating in the Commonwealth and probably one of less than one hundred operating throughout the country. The pairing may seem odd, but the very roots of the founding makes very good sense. Cabinet makers were called upon to make wooden caskets and eventually the two operations became one.
Obviously, many things have changed throughout the 153 years we have been in business. The only thing that has not changed is our honesty and integrity in how we do business. We pledge to serve your family like we would treat our own family.
