Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home realizes that after the loss of a loved one there are many things that need to be done. The following information is to help you get the most important priorities done more quickly.
1. If you are the surviving spouse, you need to call Social Security and get an interview with a counselor. The number is: 800-772-1213 - there will be four (4) menu options that will be asked - First menu option select #1 - Second menu option select #4 - Third menu option select#0 and Forth menu option select #2 - This will get you to a person where you will inform them that your loved one has passed away - you will need the Social Security number of your loved one who has died. After you answer all their questions, ask for an interview to have benefits updated. If you do this, you will not have to go to a Social Security Office for an interview.
2. Veteran Insurance - You will need to send a Letter requesting benefits to be paid to the beneficiary and you must send the face page of the policy which includes the policy number - FAX NUMBER - 215-381-3561

This office will help if you do not have the policy but you think there was one.
7. All Credit Cards that are in the name of the deceased MUST be cancelled- Do not just cut them up because this leaves the account open for possible fraud to occur.
8. If you belong to AAA, you can have any vehicles Title changed to your name with minimal charge.
9. Life Insurance Claims - Call your insurance agent or contact the insurance company directly. To get the 800 number of a company -call 800-555-1212 this is directory assistance for 800 numbers.
10. Contact medical insurance company to have the person taken off the policy.
REMEMBER, you will need a Death Certificate for almost all of the above transactions. You can order more Death Certificates within 30 days of death without needing additional paper work. Cost for Death Certificates within the 30 days is $6.00 each. Make sure you have enough!
